I Booked My Stay in Cape Charles-What Else Should I Reserve Before We Go?

Congrats!  You’ve made the excellent decision to vacation in Cape Charles and just booked your rental house….but what else should you book ahead of time?

Luckily Cape Charles is still a hidden gem and there isn’t much to plan out and book in advance, but there are a couple of things not to put off!

Golf Cart Rental

Cape Charles is golf cart friendly, and they’re so much fun!  There are several rental companies in town, but they can book up for the busiest weeks.  Our favorites are CC Ryder and Eastern Shore Custom Carts.  There is also Cape Charles Cabs, Carts, and Carriages and I’ve heard rumors of a new company coming soon!

Airport Taxi

If you’re flying into Norfolk, the easiest way across the bay is with Wave Riders.  They do airport pickups and drop-offs and we’ve had several great rides with them.  Let them know at least several days in advance if you’ll need a ride.

Family Photography

If you’re vacationing with extended family, this may be the perfect time to capture a few memories.  We’ve booked Bayside Gathering Company for several family sessions – Rachel is the child whisperer!  Families also recommend Nicole Hart Creative, Ryan and Ahren Photography, and Sarah Saunders Photography.  If you have a favorite Eastern Shore photographer, let us know in the comments!

Upscale Dining

We love booking a special dinner out when we’re in Cape Charles, and our favorite spot is Hook at Harvey.  Their reservation calendar opens a month in advance and can fill up fast!  Ambrogia Caffe & Enotecca comes highly recommended as well.  If you have a big group, consider Love & Rosemary or Robyn’s Shore to Table for a personal chef experience.

Special Cakes

Some of our favorite birthdays have been celebrated in Cape Charles, and are always accompanied by a custom cake from Coastal Baking.  They’re delicious AND beautiful, but Cassie only takes limited orders.  Ask her about signature flavors like Bananas Foster!

Charters and Tours

If you’re looking to be on the water, the Eastern Shore does not disappoint!  There are many options for fishing charters, nature tours, sunset dolphin cruises, and more!

Watercraft

For our 10th anniversary, we rented a pontoon boat and had a great date exploring the bay.  We’ve also rented jet skis and zoomed around with friends – Poseidon Watersports even sends you with a guide so won’t get lost.  These don’t always book up far in advance, but if it’s on your must-do list, you’re better safe than sorry.

Grocery Pick-Up

The local Food Lion offers grocery pick-up for a low fee.  Trust me, after a few hours road tripping with kids, the last thing you’ll want to do is grocery shop. Besides, once you get in that golf cart you won’t want to get back in your car all week!

Did I miss anything?  Let me know in the comments!

Bonnie Moore

Bonnie owns Sol Mate and has been vacationing in Cape Charles with family and friends since 2017.  Her family loves the walkable small-town vibe, calm waters, and spectacular sunsets.
